Cosmetic Injectables

Cosmetic Injectables Overview

Injectables are a versatile cosmetic tool used to smooth fine lines, restore lost volume, and contour, plump, or enhance facial features, all without surgery. At Golden State Plastic Surgery, we also use injectables to refine and maintain the outcomes of surgical procedures, helping patients enjoy lasting, natural-looking results.

Whether you are considering subtle refinement or a more dramatic refresh, injectables can be a meaningful part of a personalized facial plan that creates an outward appearance that better aligns with the inner self, supports self-confidence, and enhances quality of life.

Cosmetic Injectables at Golden State Plastic Surgery

We offer a curated selection of FDA-approved neurotoxins and dermal fillers, allowing our providers to tailor each treatment to your specific goals and anatomy.

Neurotoxins are a group of injectables that cause temporary relaxation of muscles. They can help smooth wrinkles, improve spasticity, realign facial asymmetry, and prevent clenching of jaw muscles, among other uses. The results typically last several months.

Dermal injectables typically work to improve facial volume and/or collagen and are often much longer-lasting. We offer the following injectable products:

Neurotoxins:

  • Botox Cosmetic
  • Dysport

Dermal injectables:

  • Juvederm Family of Fillers
  • Restylane Family of Fillers
  • Biostimulatory injectables (Sculptra, Radiesse, PRF/EZ Gel)
  • RHA Collection, including Redensity (Revance)

Every product has its own strengths, and your provider will recommend the right combination for natural, balanced results. Our injectables are administered by Dr. Anne Zhuang, our board-certified dermatologist with advanced fellowship training in cosmetic and laser dermatology.

Benefits of Cosmetic Injectables

Injectables remain one of the most popular cosmetic treatments because they offer meaningful results with minimal downtime. Benefits include:

  • Smoother, more refreshed skin: softening dynamic wrinkles around the forehead, brows, and eyes
  • Restored volume: replenishing fullness lost in the cheeks, lips, temples, and under-eye areas due to age or weight changes
  • Subtle facial contouring: refining the jawline, chin, lips, or nose without surgery
  • Quick, in-office treatment: most appointments take 15 to 45 minutes
  • Little to no downtime:  most patients return to normal activities the same day or within a few days
  • Customizable, natural-looking results: your provider tailors every treatment to your facial anatomy and goals
  • A non-surgical entry point: a great way to explore aesthetic refinement before, alongside, or in lieu of surgery

Bio-Stimulatory Injectables: A More Natural Alternative to Traditional Fillers

Traditional fillers work by adding volume right away, smoothing and plumping the moment they’re placed. Bio-stimulatory injectables work differently. Instead of filling, they gently encourage your skin to rebuild its own collagen over time.

At Golden State Plastic Surgery, we offer a range of options to fit your goals, from platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), which comes from your own blood, to collagen-stimulating treatments like Sculptra and Radiesse. Because these work with your body rather than simply filling space, the results tend to look and feel more natural, and they last longer too.

For many patients, it’s a wonderful way to refresh their appearance gradually and subtly, so the change looks like a well-rested version of themselves.

Your Cosmetic Injectables Appointment, Step by Step

Your treatment begins with a thorough consultation in which Dr. Zhuang will evaluate your facial anatomy, skin condition, and aesthetic goals to recommend the right product and approach. Once your plan is set, the appointment itself is straightforward:

  1. Preparation. The treatment area is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream or ice may be applied for comfort. Many fillers also contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort during injection.
  2. Marking. Your provider carefully marks the precise injection points to ensure balanced, symmetrical results that complement your natural features.
  3. Injection. Using a fine needle or cannula, your provider administers the chosen product to relax targeted muscles or restore volume and contour.
  4. Assessment. Your provider gently massages the area when and where appropriate, evaluates the immediate result, and adjusts as needed.
  5. Follow-up. For many patients, the first treatment is the initial step towards their aesthetic goal. The most natural results come from slow and gradual improvement. Dr. Zhuang will help formulate a treatment plan that aligns with your timeline and desired outcome.

Most appointments are completed in under an hour, and you will leave with a clear set of aftercare instructions.

Downtime, Side Effects, and Results

One of the biggest advantages of injectables is the minimal recovery required. Some patients return to work, exercise, and social activities very quickly with only a few simple guidelines to follow:

During the first 48 hours, make sure to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat (saunas, hot yoga), and alcohol. Refrain from rubbing or massaging the treated area unless instructed.

Common, temporary side effects can include mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or small bruises at the injection sites. These typically resolve within a few hours to several days.

Dermal fillers often show immediate improvement, with final results settling over one to two weeks. Botox and Dysport typically begin working within 3 to 5 days, with full results visible at about two weeks. Neurotoxins generally last 3 to 4 months, while fillers can last anywhere from 6 to 24 months, depending on the product and treatment area.

To maintain your results, our team will help you plan a personalized maintenance schedule.

Combining Injectables with Plastic Surgery and Other Services

Injectables can stand alone beautifully, but they often shine brightest when paired with our other surgical and non-surgical services.

They can refine, complete, and prolong the results of plastic surgery and create comprehensive transformations that no single treatment could deliver on its own.

Here are a few examples of how injectables work alongside our other procedures:

Gender-Affirming Care

Injectables can soften masculine features or reinforce feminine contours, both as a stand-alone option and as a complement to facial feminization surgery. Conversely, strategically placed filler can sharpen the jawline and chin to enhance results from facial masculinization surgery.

Facial Rejuvenation

Botox and Dysport can address forehead lines and crow’s feet that surgery does not target, beautifully complementing a facelift, neck lift, or brow lift for a more complete refresh.

Eye Area Refinement

After blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), under-eye filler can address remaining hollowness or dark circles for a smoother, brighter result.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Touch-Ups

Filler can subtly refine contour irregularities or enhance certain features following rhinoplasty, or serve as a non-surgical preview for patients exploring their options.

Skin Quality and Tone

Pairing injectables with our laser treatments can address both volume loss and skin texture, pigmentation, and fine lines for a comprehensive rejuvenation plan.

During your consultation, your provider will help you understand how injectables might fit into a broader treatment plan tailored to your goals, lifestyle, and timeline.
